Understructure
& Bodyside Assembly Conveyor TSX17 – TSX47 Transplants Project Description: Peugeot Motor Company (UK) at Ryton on Dunsmore, needed a Specialist Systems Integration Contractor who could successfully replace obsolete business critical PLC’s in their multi-million pound production and automated manufacturing operation with minimum downtime and disruption. In total there were 16 individual PLC control panels covering both Understructure and Bodyside facilities.
Approach: MCS Control Systems proven methodology is to validate the existing system, convert the software, test and simulate the “new” software and hardware before inviting the client to a detailed Factory Acceptance Test. Only after this process has been signed off will MCS attempt a PLC transplant.
Ray Worsley, the MCS Contracts Manager on the project stated at all stages, the key to success is to work with the client and understand their business, their risks and their people. MCS’s progress was continuously monitored at all stages throughout the shutdowns against a detailed plan, this coupled with a robust contingency plan minimised any business risks to Peugeot. Each PLC system when installed was fully re-tested against an agreed site acceptance test specification and following production launch support and comprehensive training of Peugeot operatives and technicians, the completed control panels were put back into service. The project was completed over a period of 3 months with an average of 2 PLC transplants being completed per week.
Results: Neil Preston, Maintenance Technician at the Peugeot Ryton site, responsible for the project stated:" The project was implemented on schedule and more importantly without any production losses. The completed installations has also given Peugeot additional programming capability to further enhance the systems".
